Therapeutic exercises are among the most important methods used in physical therapy and medical rehabilitation. They aim to improve bodily functions, restore mobility, and reduce pain resulting from injuries or various medical conditions. They consist of a range of movements and physical activities that are scientifically and carefully designed to suit each individual’s condition and health needs. Therapeutic exercises are used in the treatment and rehabilitation of many conditions, including muscle and joint injuries, back and neck pain, ligament injuries, fractures following periods of immobilization, as well as neurological conditions such as stroke and certain movement disorders. They also play an important role in post-surgical rehabilitation, helping patients regain their strength and ability to perform daily activities. Therapeutic exercises vary according to their intended purpose. These include range-of-motion and flexibility exercises, which help reduce joint stiffness; muscle-strengthening exercises, which aim to increase muscular strength and endurance; and balance and motor coordination exercises, which improve stability and reduce the risk of falls. There are also specialized exercises designed to improve walking ability, breathing, and various motor functions. One of the most important benefits of therapeutic exercises is their ability to relieve pain, improve blood circulation, increase muscle strength and joint flexibility, and enhance balance and mobility. They also contribute to preventing recurrent injuries, improving quality of life, and increasing an individual’s independence in performing daily activities. Therapeutic exercises should be performed under the supervision of qualified physical therapy or medical rehabilitation specialists, as the type, intensity, and frequency of exercise depend on the nature of the injury or medical condition. Performing exercises incorrectly may increase pain or lead to further injury. In conclusion, therapeutic exercises represent an essential component of treatment and rehabilitation. They are not limited to treating injuries but also help restore normal bodily functions and prevent future health problems. Therefore, adherence to an appropriate rehabilitation program and performing exercises correctly are among the most important steps toward achieving better health and a more active and independent life.
