Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, conducted an extensive field tour of the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) to explore the latest scientific research and advanced technologies being developed by postgraduate students and researchers in collaboration with major global companies and institutions.
The visit was conducted as part of the university’s efforts to strengthen engagement with leading international research centers and explore the latest applications and innovations in artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced technologies. It also aimed to identify opportunities for knowledge transfer, expertise exchange, and the localization of emerging technologies to support the scientific and research mission of Al-Mustaqbal University.
The tour included a visit to the Personalised Assisted Living Studio, where the University President explored advanced applications of assistive robotics, home-care and service technologies designed for the healthcare sector, as well as technological solutions that support older adults and contribute to improving their quality of life.
The President also reviewed a number of research projects focusing on autonomous driving systems and intelligent vehicles, including the development of autonomous vehicle technologies and independent systems through research projects such as VENTURER, implemented in cooperation with major industrial companies and institutions.
The tour also covered the advanced manufacturing and robotic arms facilities, where the President explored the latest research in hybrid additive manufacturing and smart manufacturing using advanced industrial robotic arms, including KUKA Robots, and their role in developing modern production and manufacturing technologies.
In another part of the tour, several advanced research projects in human-robot interaction and artificial intelligence were presented. These included postgraduate research projects involving Quadruped Robots and Pepper & PAL Humanoid Robots, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence into sensing systems, autonomous movement, and intelligent interaction.
During the tour, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi emphasized the importance of engaging with leading international research centers and laboratories and benefiting from their expertise and experience in advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, and robotics. He highlighted the role of such engagement in transferring knowledge, localizing advanced technologies, and providing a leading research environment for postgraduate students and researchers at Al-Mustaqbal University.
