President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue at the University of Strathclyde

Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom. The dialogue brought together a distinguished group of university presidents and higher education leaders from around the world to discuss internationalisation strategies in higher education amid current global challenges, as well as to exchange experiences and perspectives on the Al-Mustaqbal of international academic cooperation. The participation of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University came at the invitation of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), with the aim of strengthening opportunities for international academic and research cooperation and facilitating the exchange of strategic perspectives and expertise among higher education leaders worldwide. The event opened with welcoming remarks from the host, the University of Strathclyde, followed by remarks from Dr. Hilligje van't Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and Mr. Mervyn Baker, Executive Director of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). The programme featured a keynote lecture entitled “Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times,” delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. The lecture addressed a number of strategic issues related to leading higher education institutions and managing challenges in rapidly changing global environments. It also presented the VUCA Prime leadership model, based on Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility. The dialogue also addressed successful models and strategies for building equitable and sustainable partnerships between universities, as well as internationalisation markets and the latest data and statistics concerning global trends in international student mobility and recruitment. During his participation, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi took part in a series of dialogue sessions and roundtable discussions focusing on the Al-Mustaqbal of international academic partnerships, partner selection mechanisms, joint academic programmes, research collaboration, and strengthening the principle of reciprocity in international university relations. The discussions also explored the reimagining of internationalisation and its integration into curricula, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in advancing education and academic mobility, and the importance of virtual exchange as a modern and sustainable approach to enhancing cooperation and communication among higher education institutions. The participation also included side meetings between the President of Al-Mustaqbal University and Dr. Hilligje van't Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), during which they discussed prospects for Al-Mustaqbal academic and research partnerships. A commemorative gift reflecting Iraq’s rich heritage and civilisation was also presented to her. In addition, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi held a number of meetings with leaders and representatives of participating academic institutions. This participation comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to develop its strategic plans, keep pace with global trends and developments in higher education leadership and management, strengthen international academic and research cooperation, and expand its network of international relations and partnerships with universities and academic institutions worldwide.
