Al-Mustaqbal University Reaffirms Its Commitment to Environmental Protection and Improving Air Quality

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Al-Mustaqbal University commemorated the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies through an awareness-raising outdoor event held in the university gardens. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, along with a number of department and division directors, university staff, and students. The event was organized by the Sustainability Division at the University Presidency with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of air quality, highlighting the risks associated with air pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment, as well as promoting behaviors and practices that support the transition toward a more sustainable university environment. In his speech during the event, Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi emphasized the importance of commemorating international days and utilizing them as opportunities to raise awareness of the major risks and challenges facing the world, particularly climate change. He noted that air pollution is one of the major environmental issues associated with climate-related challenges, underscoring the need to enhance environmental awareness and support scientific and community-based initiatives aimed at mitigating its impacts. Dr. Al-Zuhairi also highlighted Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to monitoring air pollution levels and gases generated by various activities. He explained that the Al-Mustaqbal Energy Research Center is responsible for this task through a specialized air-quality monitoring station that provides scientific data on pollutant concentrations. These data constitute an important information base that can be utilized by researchers and postgraduate students in conducting studies and research related to the environment, climate, and energy. For his part, Eng. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salihi, Head of the Sustainability Division, explained that the university is working to reduce air pollution through a range of sustainable initiatives and practices, including expanding green spaces, promoting green transportation, improving waste management practices, and implementing awareness programs targeting students and university staff to strengthen their environmental responsibility. This event is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of sustainability, strengthen the university’s role in addressing environmental and climate challenges, and transform environmental awareness into practical initiatives and practices that contribute to creating a healthy and sustainable university environment, while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.
