Radio, affiliated with the Iraqi Media Network, to discuss the government’s performance during its first 100 days and examine economic and financial issues currently facing Iraq. The interview addressed the factors behind the onset of Iraq’s financial crisis, the early signs of which emerged with the preparation of the three-year budget in 2022. The budget included a financial deficit exceeding 25%, leading to the accumulation of deficits over the following three years and potentially resulting in increased debt burdens and associated interest payments. The discussion also highlighted the major challenges facing Iraq’s banking sector and emphasized the need to empower it to fulfill its genuine role as a key sector and a driving force for development and economic growth. Reference was also made to the limited banking services provided to individuals and companies, as well as the heavy reliance of some banks on the currency auction. The interview aimed to shed light on the economic and financial challenges facing Iraq and to emphasize the importance of developing the banking sector and strengthening its role in financing investment activities and supporting development and economic growth. This participation comes as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness of important economic issues and highlight specialized academic perspectives that contribute to diagnosing economic challenges and proposing appropriate solutions.
