As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its international academic presence and consolidate its commitment to sustainability, Al-Mustaqbal University participated with an official delegation in the 12th International Workshop on the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Sustainable Universities (IWGM 2026). The workshop was hosted by Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld, affiliated with Trier University of Applied Sciences in Germany, from 24 to 26 August 2026, with the participation of distinguished university leaders, academics, experts, and sustainability specialists from universities and international institutions.
The Al-Mustaqbal University delegation was represented by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering. The participation reflects the University's commitment to expanding international partnerships and exchanging expertise and best practices in the fields of university sustainability, green infrastructure, resource management, energy, water and waste management, sustainable transportation, as well as education and scientific research related to sustainable development.
The hosting of the workshop by Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld is of particular international significance due to its leading position in university sustainability. In the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, the campus ranked first among universities in Germany and fourth worldwide, maintaining its prominent position in the global ranking of sustainable universities.
Al-Mustaqbal University's participation in this international event reflects its commitment to continuously advancing its sustainability practices and benefiting from leading international experiences and best practices. This contributes to the University's ongoing efforts to build a more sustainable academic environment and strengthen its academic and societal role in supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
