From Knowledge to Impact: Al-Mustaqbal University Strengthens Its Presence at the Ministry of Higher Education and Clarivate Workshop on Building the Knowledge Economy

In line with the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by its President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, to strengthen its academic and research presence and actively participate in specialized scientific forums, the University participated with an academic delegation in the specialized workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in cooperation with Clarivate on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the University of Baghdad. The workshop was held under the theme “Building a University Ecosystem for Transforming Knowledge into Economic Value”, with the participation of a distinguished group of university leaders, researchers, and experts. The workshop was attended by the Minister of Communications, Mr. Mustafa Sanad, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Research Affairs, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd, as well as a number of university presidents and academic leaders. In his speech, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd emphasized the importance of moving Iraqi universities beyond their traditional role of knowledge production toward a more effective role in transforming scientific research and innovation into economic and developmental value. He highlighted the importance of digital transformation, the implementation of the Bologna Process, activating industrial advisory councils, establishing science and technology parks, and expanding partnerships with international scientific and research institutions. The workshop also addressed the importance of developing an integrated university ecosystem closely connected to labor market needs and productive sectors, thereby contributing to the effective utilization of educational and research outputs to address developmental challenges and develop knowledge-based products and services. The workshop featured a number of specialized lectures and presentations delivered by Dr. Ayman Aqeel and Dr. Waleed Hassan from Clarivate, focusing on mechanisms for building integrated knowledge and innovation management systems and transforming scientific research outcomes into applications with economic value. The presentations also addressed technology transfer, intellectual property protection, entrepreneurship, and strengthening partnerships between universities and productive sectors. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented by a delegation headed by the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, and comprising the Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, Professor Dr. Tariq Jawad Kadhim; the Director of the Cultural Relations Department, Dr. Samir Badrawi; and the Consultant at the Scientific Affairs Department, Dr. Abdullah Musa Kadhim. The workshop featured rich scientific discussions focusing on developing an institutional environment that supports innovation in Iraqi universities, strengthening partnerships between higher education institutions and the public and private sectors, and exploring effective mechanisms for transforming knowledge and scientific research into solutions and applications with sustainable economic and developmental impact. Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation in this scientific forum reflects its commitment to continuously developing its scientific and research ecosystem, expanding its participation in high-quality academic events, and establishing effective institutional partnerships. It also underscores the University’s commitment to harnessing knowledge and innovation in the service of society and the labor market, while contributing to the advancement of the knowledge economy and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
