Mr. Adam Samer Ali, a lecturer in the Department of English, College of Education, has published a scientific article entitled: “Why Do Bilingual Speakers Mix Languages Mid-Sentence? The Hidden Logic of Code-Switching.” The article explores the phenomenon of code-switching, which refers to the alternation between two or more languages during communication, either between sentences or within a single sentence. It examines the phenomenon from a linguistic perspective and highlights that code-switching does not necessarily indicate weak language proficiency. Rather, it may reflect an advanced linguistic ability and the bilingual speaker’s capacity to manage and use two linguistic systems flexibly and systematically. The article also examines the communicative functions of code-switching, explaining how speakers may alternate between languages for purposes such as emphasis, expressing particular ideas, or quoting others, among other communicative purposes. Furthermore, the article highlights the significance of code-switching in multilingual educational contexts and its potential role in supporting learners’ understanding and their ability to express complex ideas within contemporary approaches to language education and multilingualism. The publication represents part of the academic and research activities of the Department of English at the College of Education, contributing to the discussion of contemporary linguistic issues and language-related phenomena in multilingual contexts.
