In a distinguished step that reflects the presence of Iraqi academia on the international stage, the European Union has officially announced that Al-Mustaqbal University has won funding for a research and educational project under the Jean Monnet Awards and Projects of the Erasmus+ Programme. This achievement represents a qualitative turning point, as it is the first time an Iraqi university has won this prestigious grant and received 100% direct funding from the European Commission to implement its academic project entitled: “One Health in EU Policy: Implications for Medical and Health Practice” This achievement came after more than four years of diligent work and follow-up, during which Iraqi universities witnessed a qualitative leap in international cooperation; beginning with exploring Erasmus programmes and establishing specialized scientific and administrative units under the name “Erasmus” within educational institutions, and culminating in competing in international forums and securing European funding. On this occasion, we extend our highest expressions of thanks and gratitude to the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and we highly appreciate the exceptional and continuous efforts of: Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, Deputy Minister for Research and Development Affairs; Professor Dr. Hazem Baqir Taher, Director General of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department; Dr. Muwaffaq Sajet, Director of the International Organizations Department; whose unlimited support and sponsorship of scientific workshops and intensive training courses had the greatest impact on building academic capacities and achieving this outstanding accomplishment, which raises Iraq’s name high in international forums. In conclusion, this historic victory in the Jean Monnet Award represents a strategic transformation in the journey of Al-Mustaqbal University and a firm affirmation of the ability of Iraqi educational institutions to enter the global academic arena and compete efficiently and effectively. As we congratulate the university community and its staff on this well-deserved achievement, we look forward to further international partnerships and successes that contribute to advancing higher education and scientific research in our beloved Iraq.
