The European Commission announced today, Tuesday, 18 August 2026, that Al-Mustaqbal University has been awarded the prestigious Jean Monnet grant, which is part of the Erasmus+ programme funded by the European Union. This achievement marks a historic milestone, as Al-Mustaqbal University becomes the first Iraqi university to secure this international grant with 100% European funding. The winning project, entitled “One Health in European Union Policy: Implications for Medical and Health Practices,” aims to establish an advanced research environment that links local medical curricula with sustainable European health policies. This international recognition is the result of more than four years of continuous institutional efforts dedicated to development and the establishment of specialized administrative units in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. These efforts have significantly enhanced the university’s institutional capacities and prepared its staff to compete effectively for global research and academic funding opportunities. The Presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University expressed its sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for its exceptional support and guidance. Special gratitude was extended to Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research and Development Affairs; Professor Dr. Hazim Baqir Tahir, Director General of the Scholarships and Cultural Relations Department; and Dr. Muwaffaq Sajet, Director of the International Organizations Department, for their pivotal role in supporting intensive training workshops that contributed to building these institutional capabilities and ensuring Iraq’s presence in leading international academic forums.
