Al-Mustaqbal University, the leading private university in Iraq, continued advancing its strategy for the internationalization of higher education by holding a bilateral virtual meeting with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED) to explore opportunities for academic cooperation and discuss mechanisms for the University's engagement in the Union's European and Mediterranean programs and projects.
During the meeting, the University presented an overview of its institutional journey, academic structure comprising fifteen colleges, and its major achievements in scientific research, international rankings, sustainable development, and global collaboration. The presentation also highlighted Al-Mustaqbal University's experience in delivering postgraduate programs in partnership with Malaysian and Egyptian universities, reflecting its commitment to expanding international academic cooperation.
Representatives of UNIMED introduced the Union's activities, strategic initiatives, and collaboration opportunities, emphasizing the importance of active participation in its programs to strengthen universities' international visibility and institutional impact. The Union also commended Al-Mustaqbal University for its distinguished institutional performance, particularly in scientific research, international rankings, global partnerships, and its commitment to sustainable development.
UNIMED further expressed its readiness to involve Al-Mustaqbal University in upcoming calls for several international programs and projects, encouraging the University to prepare specialized working groups and establish international partnerships to enhance its competitiveness in securing European-funded projects.
The meeting was chaired on behalf of Al-Mustaqbal University by Professor Hassan Shaker Majdy, President of the University, with the participation of several academic and administrative leaders. The UNIMED delegation was led by Dr. Marcello Scalisi, Secretary General of the Mediterranean Universities Union, accompanied by the Union's program directors.
This initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to expanding its global academic network and strengthening international cooperation in education and research, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
