Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic milestone, further strengthening its position among higher education institutions at both the national and international levels. On 24 June 2026, the University was ranked as the top university in Iraq in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026, which assess universities' contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The University was placed within the 201–300 global band among 1,603 universities from around the world included in this year's rankings. It also ranked first among 43 Iraqi public and private universities, reaffirming its national leadership in integrating sustainable development principles into its academic, research, and community engagement activities.
In terms of individual Sustainable Development Goals, Al-Mustaqbal University achieved first place in Iraq in the following categories:
SDG 1: No Poverty
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
SDG 13: Climate Action
SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
The University also secured second place nationally for SDG 4: Quality Education, reflecting the excellence of its academic programs, educational initiatives, and commitment to preparing graduates capable of contributing to sustainable development.
This achievement represents another milestone in the University's ongoing journey of institutional excellence. Al-Mustaqbal University has maintained its position as Iraq's top-ranked university in the THE Impact Rankings for the second consecutive year, while retaining its status as the leading private university in Iraq for the fourth consecutive year, demonstrating the sustainability of its strategic vision and institutional performance.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings evaluate universities based on their contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through a comprehensive range of indicators, including teaching quality, sustainability-focused research, knowledge transfer, community engagement, governance, equality and inclusion, environmental sustainability, resource efficiency, climate action, and local and international partnerships.
On this occasion, Professor Hassan Shaker Majdy, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, expressed his pride in this remarkable achievement, emphasizing that it reflects the University's strategic vision and steadfast commitment to sustainability and institutional excellence. He noted that the accomplishment is the result of the collective efforts of the University's academic staff, researchers, employees, and students.
He further stated that leading Iraqi universities and achieving a distinguished global position demonstrate the University's success in aligning its policies, programs, and initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while strengthening its role as a leading institution dedicated to serving society and advancing sustainable development.
