Organized by Al-Mustaqbal University, the leading private university in Iraq, a ceremony for raising the Husseini banner was held in cooperation with the Holy Hussaini Shrine to mark the beginning of the holy month of Muharram and commemorate the enduring legacy of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). The event was sponsored by the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and witnessed broad participation from the university’s academic and administrative community.
The ceremony took place on Saturday, June 20, 2026, on the university campus, with the attendance of university leaders, deans, faculty members, staff, and a number of academic and community figures. The event reflected the deep connection to the religious, national, and humanitarian values embodied in the historic message of Karbala.
This initiative forms part of the university’s annual cultural and community engagement activities aimed at promoting awareness of the intellectual and ethical dimensions of the Husseini movement and highlighting its enduring principles of reform, justice, dignity, integrity, and social responsibility.
The occasion also underscored the role of higher education institutions in strengthening cultural awareness and fostering national and religious identity through activities that encourage social cohesion, mutual respect, tolerance, and the promotion of shared human values.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for peace, prosperity, and stability in Iraq, and for the holy month of Muharram to serve as an opportunity to reinforce the values of solidarity, compassion, and unity within society.
This activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting cultural and ethical awareness, as well as Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) through the reinforcement of justice, tolerance, and social cohesion, reflecting Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to its academic and humanitarian mission in serving the community.
