Held the first meeting of the IEEE Women in Engineering Iraq founding council, with the participation of its founding members, to establish the organizational framework for the council’s upcoming work and to discuss the distribution of roles and responsibilities in a way that enhances teamwork efficiency and supports the council’s objectives in empowering women in engineering and technology fields.
The meeting addressed the council’s administrative structure and defined the responsibilities of each member, in addition to discussing coordination and communication mechanisms among different teams to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of future activities within an integrated and sustainable working system.
A set of proposed scientific and professional activities was also presented and discussed, aimed at empowering female students and researchers in engineering and technical disciplines, and enhancing their skills in modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, cybersecurity, and data science.
The proposals included organizing specialized workshops, scientific seminars, professional development programs, as well as dialogue sessions with experts and academics from Iraq and abroad. They also included the launch of mentorship programs and innovation competitions that support creativity and scientific research.
The members emphasized the importance of developing a clear annual action plan that includes a detailed timeline of activities and precise task distribution, contributing to achieving the goals of IEEE WIE Iraq in building a supportive and empowering technical community for women in engineering and technology, and strengthening their academic and professional presence.
The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on teamwork and intensifying efforts to implement high-quality activities that enhance technical and professional awareness, and support innovation and creativity among female students and researchers in Iraq, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
