Until recently, the traditional mechanical cane was widely used by visually impaired and blind individuals, as it was the only reliable aid available for navigating roads and public spaces. Despite its usefulness, users often faced many difficulties while walking because many obstacles could not be detected in advance. With the emergence of smart canes developed by inventors and innovators in various designs, significant improvements have been made in assisting visually impaired individuals. Today, we have obtained a patent from the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control for the manufacture of a new smart cane. This smart cane is capable of detecting more than seven types of obstacles from different directions. Some of the most important obstacles it can identify include: Obstacles encountered while climbing stairs or the presence of holes and drops in the path. Side obstacles such as concrete blocks or barriers. Moving vehicles or pedestrians approaching from multiple directions and angles (up to 45°). Overhead obstacles, low ceilings, or tunnel entrances lower than 2 meters, among others. Key Features of the Smart Cane Lightweight design, weighing less than 500 grams. Provides audio alerts, vibration alerts, or both, depending on user preference and environmental conditions. Suitable for use in crowded areas and busy streets. Locally manufactured with competitive pricing. Designed to improve safety, mobility, and independence for visually impaired and blind individuals. This innovation represents an important step toward enhancing accessibility and providing modern technological solutions that improve the quality of life for people with visual impairments.
