In a pioneering scientific step reflecting the rapid advancements in regenerative ophthalmology, the first international scientific lecture entitled “Exosomes: A Promising Therapy for Corneal Diseases” was held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, via Google Meet at 1:00 PM Iraq Time. The lecture highlighted the latest scientific developments and innovative therapeutic applications in the treatment of corneal diseases using exosome technology.
The lecture witnessed distinguished academic participation from faculty members, researchers, and students interested in optometry and ophthalmology. It covered advanced scientific topics focusing on the vital role of exosomes in corneal regeneration and repair, their anti-inflammatory effects on the ocular surface, and their therapeutic potential in managing keratoconus, dry eye disease, accelerating corneal wound healing, and reducing corneal scarring.
The lecture was delivered by Ali Hadi Al-Husseini, a lecturer in the Department of Optics and a PhD candidate at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He presented the latest international studies and clinical trials related to the use of exosomes in treating diseases of the anterior segment of the eye, as well as future perspectives on regenerative medicine applications in eye care.
The event also featured fruitful scientific discussions on the future prospects of this revolutionary treatment and its potential role as an alternative or complementary approach to conventional therapies, contributing to improved clinical outcomes and enhanced quality of patient care.
This scientific activity is part of the efforts of the Department of Optics Technologies to keep pace with the latest global research developments and to promote scientific awareness among students and researchers in line with modern advancements in optometry and ophthalmology.
