Within its international academic pathways implemented under the direct supervision of Al-Mustaqbal University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdy, Master’s thesis discussions continue under the scientific collaboration program with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), in the field of Electronic System Design Engineering (ESDE). The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at USM hosted the Master’s thesis defense of the student Mohammed Diaa Saeed Mashatah on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in a joint scientific session held in Malaysia, with the Al-Mustaqbal University committee participating remotely via WEBEX, as part of the program: MSc ESDE Offshore Al-Mustaqbal University, Iraq – Intake October 2024. The thesis is titled: DEEP REINFORCEMENT LEARNING-BASED SCHEDULING OF TWO ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITH SHARED CHARGER IN SMART HOME ENERGY SYSTEMS This research is of significant relevance to global transformations in sustainable energy, electric vehicles, smart homes, artificial intelligence, and energy management systems. It investigates the use of deep reinforcement learning techniques to schedule the charging of two electric vehicles within a smart home sharing a single charger, aiming to reduce electricity costs, maximize solar energy utilization, and minimize reliance on the power grid. A simulation model was developed using household load data, solar panel generation data, electricity pricing, and vehicle state-of-charge. The results demonstrated that the proposed approach enables more intelligent and efficient charging decisions compared to conventional methods, contributing to more sustainable home energy management. The thesis was supervised jointly by Associate Professor Dr. Rosmiwati Mohd Mokhtar (USM) and Dr. Ahmed Hasan Kadhim Janabi (Al-Mustaqbal University). The examination committee consisted of: Ts. Dr. Noramalina Abdullah – Examiner from Universiti Sains Malaysia Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Mohammed Ridha Al-Khafaji – Examiner from Al-Mustaqbal University AP. Ir. Ts. Dr. Teh Jiashen – Chair of the committee, USM This defense reflects the advanced research orientation adopted by Al-Mustaqbal University in supporting postgraduate studies aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, particularly in artificial intelligence, energy systems, and electronic engineering. It also highlights the university’s active academic presence in global research environments and reinforces the strategic role of international collaborative research in preparing highly skilled graduates capable of addressing future challenges in clean energy, electric mobility, and intelligent systems. Through this achievement, Al-Mustaqbal University continues to strengthen its position within the global higher education ecosystem through joint programs that combine rigorous academic supervision, international scientific evaluation, and applied research addressing real-world technological and societal needs. Al-Mustaqbal University – the first university in Iraq.
