As part of its commitment to scientific and applied activities aimed at upholding quality and safety standards, Future University's Biomedical Engineering Department organized a specialized workshop titled "Safety for Laboratory Technicians." The workshop aimed to promote a safe working environment and minimize occupational hazards within medical and scientific laboratories. About the Workshop: The workshop was conducted under the direct supervision of a specialized team comprised of: Assistant Lecturer Fatima Rahim Engineer Noor Al-Huda Razzaq Engineer Al-Zahraa Saad The workshop aimed to highlight the most important preventative measures and safe handling practices within laboratories. The session focused on preparing students and laboratory staff, equipping them with the necessary skills and awareness to navigate sensitive work environments, thus minimizing occupational accidents. Methodology: The workshop employed a presentation-based approach and preventative analysis, covering: A review of biosafety protocols and demonstrations of the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect staff and students. The workshop explained the engineering and scientific mechanisms for handling hazardous chemical and biological materials, and how to safely dispose of laboratory waste. It also highlighted the direct relationship between strict adherence to safety guidelines, ensuring the quality and accuracy of laboratory results, and protecting sensitive medical equipment from misuse. The workshop witnessed lively interaction from attendees through discussions on how to apply these standards globally and locally, which contributed to enhancing students' skills and readiness for fieldwork with the highest levels of responsibility. Objectives of the Scientific Activity: The themes of this workshop align with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, including: Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being): by protecting the health and safety of medical staff and students within laboratories and disseminating preventive awareness. Goal 4 (Quality Education): by providing comprehensive practical training that integrates scientific knowledge with safe and responsible practices according to international standards.
