Ms. Rusul Mushtaq Talib Organizes a Scientific Activity on the Impact of Social Media in Shaping Public Health Awareness

As part of its scientific and academic activities aimed at enhancing students’ health awareness, lecturer Rusul Mushtaq Talib from the Department of Community Health Techniques at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific activity addressing the impact of social media on shaping public health awareness, attended by faculty members and students. The activity highlighted the increasing role of social media platforms in disseminating health information and raising awareness about diseases, prevention methods, and treatment approaches. It also discussed their influence on promoting preventive culture and mental health awareness within society, particularly during health crises and epidemics. The event further addressed the negative consequences associated with the improper use of these platforms, including the spread of misleading medical information and health-related rumors, in addition to their psychological and behavioral effects on young people. The activity emphasized the importance of relying on credible medical sources and strengthening digital health literacy among users. Lecturer Rusul Mushtaq Talib also stressed the necessity of utilizing social media positively to spread purposeful health messages that contribute to building a healthier, more aware, and stable society. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq.
