Based on the recommendations of the First Scientific Conference on Addressing Poverty and Unemployment in Iraq, and within the framework of strengthening scientific and community partnerships, Assistant Professor Dr. Munther Sameen Shukr, representing the College of Health and Medical Technologies at Al-Mustaqbal University on Tuesday 19/5/2026, visited the headquarters of the Authority for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Baghdad. During the visit, a meeting was held with the Director General of the Authority, Mr. Raed Jabbar Bahidh, in the presence of the Director of Public Relations, to discuss prospects for scientific and training cooperation between the two sides.
The meeting addressed the possibility of establishing joint scientific cooperation in the fields of scientific conferences, collaborative research, and training courses through signing a memorandum of understanding between the university and the departments of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. This cooperation aims to support and empower people with disabilities and special needs academically and professionally, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
The two parties also discussed the possibility of organizing training courses for trainees and students with special needs in several practical fields, including optics techniques, particularly lens edging and frame fitting techniques, in addition to injection training, metal welding skills, and psychological and rehabilitation support programs. These initiatives aim to enhance their integration into the labor market and help them achieve professional and social independence.
The meeting also explored the possibility of involving trainees in exhibitions and scientific activities organized by the university under the supervision of the Continuing Education Center within Babil Province, following the completion of the memorandum of understanding procedures between the two parties. This step would contribute to building an inclusive and sustainable educational and training environment.
In the same context, the Authority expressed its interest in organizing specialized scientific seminars, including seminars on how to use the smart cane for the visually impaired, while highlighting mechanisms for integrating them into the labor market and enhancing their active participation in society.
This cooperation comes within the university’s vision to strengthen social responsibility and promote sustainable development by providing education, training, and rehabilitation opportunities for vulnerable groups, thereby contributing to building a more inclusive, equitable, and opportunity-oriented society.
Al-Mustaqbal University is ranked first among private universities in Iraq.
