DNA analysis is considered one of the most accurate and reliable tools in modern criminal investigations. It represents a unique genetic fingerprint for each individual, allowing for near-certain identification. This technology has brought about a major تحول (transformation) in forensic science, becoming a decisive factor in linking suspects to crime scenes or proving the innocence of the accused. DNA analysis relies on examining genetic sequences found in body cells, which can be obtained from various biological sources such as blood, saliva, hair, bones, or even skin cell traces. Advanced techniques like Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) are used to amplify extremely small amounts of DNA, enabling the analysis of limited or degraded samples. One of the most important forensic applications of DNA analysis is the creation of a genetic profile (DNA fingerprint), where the genetic pattern extracted from a crime scene is compared with samples taken from suspects or stored in genetic databases. When these patterns match, strong evidence can be presented in court linking a person to the crime with a high degree of certainty. DNA analysis is also used to identify unknown bodies, especially in cases of mass disasters or accidents where traditional identification methods are difficult. Additionally, it helps reopen cold cases, as modern techniques allow investigators to analyze preserved evidence from years ago and uncover the truth. Despite its high accuracy, the use of DNA in criminal investigations requires strict procedures to ensure the integrity of evidence—from collection and documentation to storage, transportation, and laboratory analysis. Any contamination or mishandling of samples may lead to misleading results. This technology also raises ethical and legal concerns, such as protecting genetic privacy and managing DNA databases, which necessitates clear regulations to govern its use. In conclusion, DNA analysis is a cornerstone of contemporary criminal investigations due to its high precision and ability to reveal the truth, making it an indispensable tool for achieving justice and enhancing public safety.
