Students of the Department of Archaeology Hosted by the Hilla Contemporary Museum A Scientific Journey Between the Spirit of History and Modern Display Techniques

In conjunction with the celebration of World Heritage Day and International Museum Day, and as part of its continuous efforts to bridge academic curricula with practical application, the Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized field visit on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, to the Hilla Contemporary Museum, with the participation of the department’s students and academic staff. This scientific activity was held under the generous patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, Professor Dr. Hussein Waheed Aziz, with direct follow-up by the Head of the Department of Archaeology, Dr. Angham Salim Al-Dulaimi. The visit comes as part of the department’s annual academic and cultural program aimed at preparing qualified cadres equipped with modern knowledge and practical skills in the field of archaeology. The visit included a series of scientific tours within the museum’s halls, designed to maximize students’ learning outcomes, including: * Exploring heritage collections and artistic exhibits that document the historical periods of the city of Hilla. * Reviewing personal belongings of prominent scholars, writers, and intellectuals of the city, and examining their influence on the Iraqi cultural landscape. * Learning about modern museum display techniques and methods of preserving and maintaining artifacts according to recognized standards. During the visit, the department’s delegation praised the pioneering role of the Hilla Contemporary Museum in preserving the city’s cultural memory. The department also commended the museum’s administration for their cooperation and for providing detailed explanations on museum management, display methods, and documentation processes, which significantly enriched the students’ academic experience and strengthened the link between theory and practice.
