Comparative Study of Chlorhexidine and Green Tea Mouthwashes on Periodontal Inflammation

The College of Dentistry at Al-Mustaqbal University witnessed, on Sunday, 12 April 2026, the discussion of graduation research entitled: “Chlorhexidine Gluconate vs Green Tea Mouthwash: Comparative Effects on Periodontal Inflammation (Randomized Clinical Trial) ”, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Zaid Muhannad, and attended by Assistant Lecturer Dumyah Jabbar Ahmeed, along with a number of faculty members. The research was presented by the students: Aya Falah Mahdi, Ola Ahmed Mohammed, Farah Abdul Kareem Abdul Yimah, Naba Diaa Baqir, and Zainab Aqeel Najm. The study focused on a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of chlorhexidine mouthwash and green tea mouthwash in reducing periodontal inflammation through a randomized clinical trial aimed at evaluating their impact on improving the health of supporting dental tissues. The research highlighted the importance of utilizing natural alternatives in medical applications, while also examining the differences in therapeutic effects between chemical preparations and natural compounds, with an emphasis on minimizing side effects and achieving effective clinical outcomes. The discussion session witnessed active scientific engagement, with various questions and remarks that contributed to enriching the research and enhancing its academic value. At the conclusion of the session, the research supervisor, Assistant Lecturer Zaid Muhannad, praised the students’ efforts and their outstanding scientific work, commending the accuracy of the results and the significance of the topic. He emphasized that such studies contribute to the advancement of clinical practices in the field of periodontal diseases. He further noted that this type of research reflects the advanced academic level of the college's students and plays an important role in developing their research and practical skills, as well as supporting the adoption of modern treatment approaches that combine efficiency and safety.
