Al-Mustaqbal University ranked first among Iraq’s private universities and third nationwide across public and private institutions. It placed in the 101–125 band in the 2027 Times Higher Education Arab University Rankings. The significance of this result extends beyond the university’s position in the rankings. The individual indicators show where the university performed most strongly and help explain the factors that have shaped its academic standing in Iraq and across the Arab region. The university achieved its highest score in Research Quality, earning 60.6 out of 100, followed by International Outlook, with 59.6 out of 100. These results highlight the relationship between research and academic engagement. Research advances when findings are shared with a wider scientific community. International partnerships prove their value when they lead to joint studies, enable the exchange of expertise, and give researchers and students opportunities to work on projects beyond their own institutions. This relationship is particularly evident in fields that bring together computing and the medical sciences. A project that uses artificial intelligence to analyse medical data, for example, requires collaboration between technical specialists and clinicians. It also requires a methodology that protects data privacy and tests the reliability of the findings. Through this kind of work, students learn to move from building a computational model to assessing its validity in a real-world setting. The partnership thus gives students practical research experience and enriches their education. Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, attributed this achievement to sustained institutional effort and a commitment to quality and excellence. He also recognised the contributions of faculty members, researchers, students, and university staff. As academics, we see the value of this work in everyday tasks, from supervising a student project and reviewing a study’s methodology to bringing together researchers from different disciplines. These efforts accumulate over years, and their impact becomes visible when they are embedded in the university’s daily practice. Leading Iraq’s private universities in this ranking is a milestone worth celebrating. Its lasting value lies in the university’s ability to translate its academic standing into wider opportunities for students and researchers, and into research that addresses issues facing Iraqi society and contributes to scientific dialogue across the Arab region and beyond. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
