As part of its commitment to developing academic and professional competencies and strengthening its participation in scientific and educational activities, the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in a scientific workshop entitled "Teaching Strategies in Light of Professional Ethics." The department was represented by its Rapporteur, Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi, an accredited trainer in teaching methodology courses towards blended learning. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hawraa Mahmoud Murad Al-Husseini. The workshop addressed several academic and educational topics related to improving the teaching and learning process, with particular emphasis on the importance of selecting appropriate teaching strategies according to the nature of scientific subjects and different academic levels. Discussions highlighted how effective teaching approaches can improve students' understanding of scientific concepts, strengthen their engagement in theoretical and practical lectures, and encourage active participation in educational activities. Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the role of university instructors in moving beyond traditional teaching methods based primarily on memorization and information delivery towards modern educational approaches that promote dialogue, discussion, critical thinking, and active learning. These approaches contribute to developing students' scientific personalities, enhancing their analytical and problem-solving abilities, and preparing them to apply acquired knowledge in academic and professional contexts. A significant part of the workshop focused on professional ethics within the university environment, emphasizing that ethical commitment represents an essential component of an instructor's responsibility towards students, educational institutions, and society. The discussions stressed the importance of academic integrity, objectivity, fairness, and equal treatment of students, while respecting individual differences and providing an educational environment founded on mutual respect, equal opportunities, academic discipline, and professional responsibility. Such principles play a fundamental role in establishing a fair and supportive learning environment that helps prepare graduates equipped with knowledge, professional skills, and ethical values. The workshop also explored the transformations taking place in higher education as a result of rapid technological advancements and the increasing integration of digital technologies into educational practices. Particular attention was given to the importance of blended learning, which combines face-to-face instruction with electronic learning methods. The discussions emphasized the need for university instructors to continuously develop their teaching competencies, effectively utilize digital educational platforms and interactive tools, and adopt innovative approaches that support educational objectives while maintaining the quality and credibility of academic content. These themes are closely connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The development of modern teaching strategies and the enhancement of academic staff competencies directly support SDG 4 – Quality Education, through improving educational standards, promoting inclusive learning opportunities, and strengthening the quality of university education. Moreover, the emphasis on professional ethics, academic integrity, fairness, transparency, and accountability contributes to SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by reinforcing ethical practices and responsible conduct within educational institutions. The workshop also supports SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, through encouraging the exchange of academic and educational expertise, sharing successful teaching experiences, and strengthening cooperation among academic professionals to advance educational practices and institutional performance. Dr. Aseel Amer Hadi's participation in this workshop reflects the Department of Biochemistry's ongoing commitment to academic and professional development, keeping pace with advancements in teaching methodologies and blended learning, and benefiting from specialized scientific and training activities. Such participation provides valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge, acquire new educational perspectives, and improve teaching performance, ultimately contributing to enhancing students' academic achievement and the overall quality of the educational process. The Department of Biochemistry continues to support scientific initiatives and professional development activities that promote educational quality, encourage continuous improvement, and strengthen the integration of scientific knowledge, teaching competence, and professional ethics. These efforts align with Al-Mustaqbal University's vision of achieving academic excellence, meeting the requirements of modern higher education, and contributing effectively to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
