As part of the scientific and educational activities aimed at enhancing students’ practical skills, the Engineering Laboratories, at the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, organized a scientific workshop entitled “Determination of the Centre of Pressure for a Plane Surface Submerged Vertically in a Liquid.” The workshop was delivered by Asst. Lecturer Farah Hamid Abdul Khader, with the participation of a number of students. The workshop included a scientific and practical explanation of the concept of hydrostatic pressure and its distribution over plane surfaces submerged in liquids. It also addressed the distinction between the centre of area and the centre of pressure, explained the factors affecting the location of the centre of pressure, and presented the mathematical equations and relationships used in theoretical calculations. The workshop also featured a practical demonstration using the hydrostatic pressure apparatus, during which the experimental procedures and the effects of immersion depth and applied forces on the submerged surface were explained. Students participated in recording measurements, performing calculations, and comparing experimental results with theoretical values, thereby reinforcing scientific concepts and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and laboratory applications. The workshop aimed to develop students’ abilities in handling laboratory equipment, enhance their skills in conducting engineering experiments and analysing results, and provide them with a deeper understanding of the practical applications of fluid mechanics principles in various engineering fields. This workshop is part of the Engineering Laboratories’ commitment to promoting scientific and practical activities and providing an interactive learning environment that contributes to developing students’ scientific and practical competencies and preparing them for professional careers.
