As part of its strategic vision to enhance the quality of higher education and strengthen its international academic presence, Al-Mustaqbal University hosted Turkish international evaluator Dr. E. Burak Arıkan, appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for an external evaluation visit to review the University’s implementation of the Bologna Process and assess the alignment of its academic practices with the standards of the European Higher Education Area. The visit was attended by the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, the Assistant Presidents, the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, college deans, heads of academic departments, quality assurance officers, and a number of academic and administrative leaders. The visit began with a specialized workshop featuring an opening address delivered on behalf of the University President by Professor Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. He emphasized that the Bologna Process represents a significant transformation in university education through its focus on learning outcomes, student-centred learning, skills and competency development, improved teaching and assessment methods, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. He noted that the University currently implements the Bologna Process across eight colleges: Engineering, Engineering Technologies, Science, Administrative Sciences, Law, Agricultural Technologies, Nursing, and Arts. Implementation will expand during the 2026–2027 academic year to include three additional colleges: Education, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Fine Arts. The workshop included a presentation by the international evaluator on the philosophy of the Bologna Process and its implementation mechanisms. This was followed by academic discussions and evaluation sessions addressing the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), student workload, course specifications, learning outcomes, and assessment methods, alongside a review of the University’s institutional documents, supporting evidence, and established practices. The evaluation sessions also focused on identifying strengths and opportunities for improvement, exploring ways to enhance implementation efficiency, and ensuring quality in accordance with European standards. These efforts support academic programme development, improved educational outcomes, and closer alignment with labour market needs. The visit reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to drawing on international expertise to develop its educational system, embed a culture of evaluation and continuous improvement, and advance competitive university education grounded in global quality standards, further strengthening its academic standing nationally and internationally.
