Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Education at Al-Mustaqbal University, Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Rawdan Salman, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, headed by Professor Dr. Thanaa Bahaa Al-Din Abdullah, held an awareness workshop on the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day. The workshop took place on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Hall (301), targeting second-year students from the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences.
The workshop highlighted the importance of commemorating this global occasion, which serves as a humanitarian call to raise awareness about suicide as a major public health issue that can be prevented. World Suicide Prevention Day was established in 2003 through an initiative by the International Association for Suicide Prevention, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), with the aim of raising community awareness, reducing the social stigma surrounding discussions about suicide, and encouraging psychological support for individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts.
The workshop also addressed the main factors and causes that may contribute to suicide attempts, in addition to presenting a range of preventive strategies and measures that can help reduce such attempts and promote awareness of the importance of psychological support and early intervention.
This workshop comes as part of the College of Education’s commitment to promoting psychological and health awareness among students, strengthening the role of psychological counseling and guidance in building a more informed and understanding society, and supporting efforts to protect mental health and prevent harmful behaviors.
