Magnesium alloys are promising metallic materials for manufacturing screws and plates used in bone fracture fixation. They are characterized by their low density and elastic modulus, which is relatively close to that of natural bone, thereby reducing the stress-shielding effect. These alloys gradually degrade inside the body through electrochemical reactions with biological fluids. Elements such as zinc and calcium are used to improve their mechanical properties and control their degradation rate. Heat treatments and surface engineering techniques help modify the microstructure and improve corrosion resistance. Recent research aims to develop biodegradable implants that maintain fracture stability throughout the healing process without requiring additional surgery for implant removal.
