As part of its efforts to enhance students’ scientific knowledge and practical skills, the Civil Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organised a scientific workshop entitled “Applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Civil Engineering.” The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Saif Salam Saud, with the participation of department students. The workshop addressed the importance of using Geographic Information Systems in spatial data analysis and digital map preparation. It also explored key applications of GIS in urban planning, selecting suitable sites for engineering projects, and managing road networks and infrastructure. Furthermore, it highlighted the role of these modern technologies in supporting engineering decision-making and improving planning and implementation efficiency. The workshop aimed to expand students’ knowledge and develop their practical skills in using GIS technologies, thereby bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications. It also sought to prepare qualified engineering professionals capable of keeping pace with technological advancements in the field of civil engineering. This workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, by promoting sustainable urban planning, supporting infrastructure development, and contributing to the creation of more efficient, safer, and sustainable cities.
