Polymers play an important role in the continuous development of the aircraft industry, as they have become widely used engineering materials in the manufacture of various components that require low weight and resistance to harsh operating conditions. Advances in materials science have led to the development of different types of polymers with mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties suitable for modern aviation requirements. As a result, polymers have become an important option alongside traditional metals. Polymers are characterized by their low density compared with many metals, which helps reduce the overall weight of aircraft, improve fuel efficiency, and decrease emissions resulting from aircraft operation. Some types of polymers also offer resistance to corrosion and chemicals, in addition to providing electrical and thermal insulation. These properties are essential for electrical systems, cabin interiors, and various aircraft components. Polymer-based composite materials, such as carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers and glass-fiber-reinforced polymers, are used in manufacturing parts of aircraft wings, fuselages, and control surfaces. These materials combine low weight with high stiffness and strength, helping improve aircraft performance and reduce structural loads. Specialized polymers are also used in seals, gaskets, pipes, and insulation materials, as well as in certain interior components that require resistance to vibration and friction. Despite their numerous advantages, the use of polymers in aircraft manufacturing requires careful evaluation of their resistance to heat, pressure, and repeated loading. Some types may be affected by high temperatures, ultraviolet radiation, or prolonged exposure to moisture and chemicals. Composite materials also require specialized inspection and maintenance techniques to detect internal defects that may not be visible on the surface. Therefore, selecting suitable materials and conducting engineering tests are essential to ensuring aircraft safety and reliability. With the continued development of composite manufacturing technologies and three-dimensional printing, opportunities are increasing for using advanced polymers to produce more efficient and lighter aircraft components. Current research is also focusing on developing recyclable polymers and more sustainable composite materials to reduce the environmental impact of the industry. Consequently, polymers represent an important direction for the future of aviation, offering opportunities to improve performance, reduce weight, and enhance aircraft efficiency while maintaining established quality and safety requirements.
