As part of its efforts to enhance students’ scientific knowledge, develop their specialized skills, and integrate anatomical sciences with biomedical engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a specialized workshop entitled “The Structure and Functions of Human Bones and the Skeletal System.” Workshop Presenter and Supervisor: The workshop was conducted and directly supervised by Engineer Mohammed Abdul Karim Razouqi. The workshop aimed to enrich participants’ scientific understanding of the human skeletal system through an interactive and accessible scientific approach, while highlighting the biomechanical significance of understanding human movement and designing prosthetic limbs and artificial joints. Scientific Topics and Workshop Content: The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of the structure and biomechanics of the skeletal system, covering the following topics: * Introducing the anatomical structure of the human skeleton and its axial and appendicular divisions. * Explaining the primary functions of bones in supporting the human body, protecting vital internal organs such as the brain and lungs, facilitating movement, and contributing to blood cell production. * Examining the mechanical and physical properties of bones, while explaining bone density and the ability of bones to withstand stress and substantial compressive forces. * Connecting the study of bones with biomedical engineering applications, particularly the design of medical plates, screws, and bone implants and substitutes. The workshop witnessed considerable engagement from participants, who took part in scientific discussions and interactive activities designed to reinforce the concepts covered. Activity Objectives in Relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): This scientific workshop directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, particularly: * SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being — by raising awareness of skeletal health and the prevention of bone and joint diseases and disorders. * SDG 4: Quality Education — by promoting active learning and developing students’ scientific skills and specialized expertise. Al-Mustaqbal University… Ranked First Among Private Universities in Iraq.
