As part of its efforts to support student-led scientific initiatives and enhance practical knowledge of modern medical imaging technologies, second-year students in the Biomedical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled “Ultrasound Imaging Technology: Principles and Diagnostic Applications.”
Seminar Presenter and Supervisor:
The seminar was impressively presented by second-year students under the direct supervision of Engineer Mohammed Abdul Karim Razouqi.
The event aimed to provide students with an opportunity to expand their theoretical and practical knowledge of medical imaging and highlight the pivotal role of biomedical engineers in developing and calibrating modern diagnostic technologies.
Scientific Topics and Seminar Content:
During the seminar, the students presented a comprehensive overview of the physics and technology of ultrasound imaging, covering the following topics:
* Explaining the scientific principles underlying ultrasound technology and its importance as a safe, non-invasive method for examining the internal organs of the body.
* Describing how high-frequency sound waves are generated by transducers and explaining how returning echoes are detected and processed to produce high-resolution medical images.
* Reviewing the major medical applications of ultrasound, including fetal monitoring, soft tissue examination, blood flow assessment using Doppler ultrasound, and the evaluation of various medical conditions.
* Highlighting the diagnostic advantages of ultrasound systems, particularly their lack of ionizing radiation and their ability to provide rapid, real-time imaging results.
The seminar witnessed significant engagement from attendees, who praised the second-year students’ outstanding scientific presentations and their ability to connect physics and engineering principles with applied medical sciences.
Activity Objectives in Relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
This scientific seminar directly supports the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, particularly:
* SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being — by contributing to the advancement and promotion of safe diagnostic technologies and early disease detection.
* SDG 4: Quality Education — by empowering students and developing their research and presentation skills in accordance with high standards of active academic learning.
