The College of Education at the University of Al-Mustaqbal, through its Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences, held a guidance workshop entitled “Student Deviant Behavior and Its Impact on Community Health.” The workshop was delivered by Prof. Dr. Sahira Qahtan Abdul Jabbar and faculty member Hawraa Ali Atiyah, with the aim of highlighting behavioral deviation among students and its implications for the educational environment and society.
The workshop addressed the major intellectual, social, and technological challenges of the modern era and the negative behaviors that may arise from them, threatening the stability of the educational environment and community health. Its key topics included defining deviant behavior and identifying its causes, as well as explaining how individual deviant behavior can develop into a social phenomenon that contributes to the spread of violence, bullying, and drug abuse.
The presenters emphasized the importance of adopting behavioral prevention and intervention strategies, highlighting that students are the foundation of society and that correcting their behavior contributes to building a healthy and cohesive community. They also stressed that promoting positive behavior is a shared responsibility of families, universities, and society as a whole.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably strengthening the role of educational counselors in continuously monitoring students’ behavior and organizing regular awareness programs that encourage students to spend their free time engaging in sports, cultural, and volunteer activities. These initiatives aim to develop students’ personalities and promote positive behavior.
This workshop is part of the College of Education’s ongoing efforts at the University of Al-Mustaqbal to enhance educational and psychological awareness, promote positive values, and contribute to providing a safe and healthy educational and social environment.
