Al-Mustaqbal University published a collaborative scientific research paper in the international Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, published by SAGE, on March 24, 2026. The research involved Professor Dr. Haider Jabbar Abd, Head of the Communications Engineering Technologies Department at the College of Engineering Technologies, in collaboration with an international research team. The publication reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening international research cooperation and advancing the quality of scientific output. The paper, entitled “Probing the Electrical and Linear/Nonlinear Optical Properties of Polyvinyl Alcohol–Chitosan/Graphene Oxide Nanocomposites for Next-Generation Optoelectronic Applications,” investigated the development of advanced nanocomposites based on graphene oxide combined with a polyvinyl alcohol–chitosan polymer blend. The study aimed to improve the electrical and optical properties of these materials for potential applications in modern optoelectronic devices and smart sensors. The research examined the effects of different graphene oxide nanoparticle concentrations on the structural, electrical, and linear and nonlinear optical properties of the prepared materials. It also investigated electrical conductivity, dielectric constant, refractive index, and optical band gap using advanced laboratory techniques and characterization methods. The findings revealed that the permitted indirect optical band gap decreased from 5.49 to 4.60 electron volts, accompanied by improvements in electrical conductivity and nonlinear optical response. Furthermore, the developed nanocomposites achieved a pressure sensitivity of approximately 90% at a graphene oxide concentration of 6%, highlighting their potential for developing flexible, highly sensitive pressure sensors and advanced optoelectronic applications. This scientific achievement supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by contributing to the development of advanced materials and innovative technologies with potential industrial and research applications. The publication reflects the ongoing research efforts of Al-Mustaqbal University’s academic staff to promote high-quality scientific publishing in reputable international journals and expand collaboration with global academic and research institutions. These efforts reinforce Al-Mustaqbal University’s position as the number one private university in Iraq and strengthen its academic and research presence at both national and international levels.
