In line with promoting digital responsibility and community awareness, students from the Department of Fuel and Energy Engineering Technologies, under the supervision of lecturer Ali Yaseen Kazim, organized a comprehensive awareness campaign entitled "Cybercrime, Cyber Extortion, and Prevention Strategies," which was held on October 13, 2026, to address emerging digital risks and mitigation practices.
The campaign aimed to educate the public on safeguarding personal data and privacy across online platforms, highlighting common cyber-extortion tactics and the proper legal and security measures to handle them. Additionally, it provided practical technical tips to secure digital accounts and prevent unauthorized access.
This initiative serves as a practical contribution toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by expanding digital literacy beyond academic settings, as well as Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting online safety, digital rights, and community resilience against cybercrime.
The activity drew high engagement and appreciation from local citizens and shopkeepers, who commended the students' clear and practical approach to explaining cyber safety and protection methods.
This effort highlights the department and university's commitment to raising digitally conscious student leaders capable of driving positive community impact and using their knowledge to protect society from modern digital threats.
