Under the strategic sponsorship of Al-Mustaqbal University and the direct supervision of its President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, the sixth edition of the Babylon Animation Film Festival commenced at the University on Sunday, 11 October 2026. The two-day festival features ongoing events and discussions, attended by Dr. Ali Al-Shallah, President of the Babylon International Festival of Cultures and Arts; Prof. Dr. Amer Sabah Al-Marzouk, President of the Animation Film Festival; and a distinguished gathering of leading artists, writers, intellectuals, and filmmakers from Iraq and around the world. The opening ceremony began with the Iraqi national anthem, followed by an address on behalf of the University President, delivered by Prof. Dr. Mudhafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. He welcomed the diplomatic and artistic delegations representing 11 Arab and foreign countries: Egypt, Russia, Tatarstan, Ukraine, Tunisia, Lebanon, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Palestine, and the Sultanate of Oman. The morning sessions featured screenings of 14 animated films and practical productions, while the evening session focused on a specialised intellectual seminar entitled “Artificial Intelligence and Animation Filmmaking,” alongside screenings of an additional 17 films. During the festival, Al-Mustaqbal University was honoured in recognition of its pioneering efforts. The second day’s programme is scheduled to include a book-signing ceremony, screenings celebrating 90 years of Arab animation cinema, the conclusion of the judging committees’ work, the announcement of the results, and the presentation of awards.
