The Iraqi Engineers Syndicate has invited young engineers and researchers to apply for the UNESCO–Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), for its third edition in 2027. The initiative is undertaken in cooperation with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), as part of efforts to support Iraqi scientific and engineering talent and strengthen its presence on the international stage. The prize represents an international opportunity to recognize outstanding innovations and scientific contributions by young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Each of the five winners worldwide will receive USD 50,000, in addition to a medal and a certificate of recognition from UNESCO. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must meet the following requirements: Be an active researcher in one of the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), through scientific research, education or innovation. Be no older than 40 years at the application deadline. Demonstrate outstanding contributions to scientific research, STEM education, or the promotion of scientific and development cooperation. Iraqi women engineers and researchers are particularly encouraged to apply, in support of their participation in engineering and research fields. Application Deadline and Procedure Applications and nominations for the third edition opened on 27 February 2026. The application deadline is midnight on 30 November 2026, UNESCO time (UTC+1), corresponding to 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 1 December 2026, Baghdad time.
