President of Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in the UNIMED General Assembly in Barcelona

Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated on October 7–8, 2026, in the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain. The event brought together university presidents and representatives of educational and academic institutions from Mediterranean and European countries. The General Assembly coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED). The meetings addressed the union’s strategic priorities and explored ways to develop higher education and scientific research while strengthening academic cooperation among participating universities and institutions. Discussing Strategic Priorities for Higher Education The meetings covered several strategic areas, including higher education governance, digital education, intercultural dialogue, graduate employability, higher education in emergencies and crises, and sustainable development, highlighting the role of universities in achieving sustainability goals. Erasmus+ Programs and International Academic Mobility The General Assembly also featured sessions discussing the proposed directions of the Erasmus+ program for the 2028–2034 period and mechanisms for enhancing academic mobility for students and academic staff. Discussions also addressed capacity building, international partnerships, master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions. In this context, Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation in European Union programs highlights its engagement in international academic cooperation. According to the information provided, the university is the only private university in Iraq to have received a Jean Monnet grant, reflecting its presence in international academic initiatives and creating opportunities to develop educational and research projects.
