the College of Science organized a scientific seminar on World Geodiversity Day on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The seminar reflected the University’s commitment to commemorating international scientific occasions and raising awareness of the importance of geodiversity and its role in serving society and sustainable development.
The seminar featured distinguished scientific participation by a group of academics and specialists who delivered a series of scientific lectures addressing various topics related to geodiversity and its significance. The participants included Prof. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Manea and Prof. Dr. Jaafar Hussein Ali from the Department of Applied Geology, College of Science, University of Babylon, in addition to Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Latif Hussein from the Department of Medical Physics, College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University.
The seminar highlighted the importance of geodiversity as a fundamental component of the natural environment and its role in supporting human life, scientific activities, and economic development. It also emphasized the importance of promoting community awareness of the need to preserve distinctive geological sites and features and protect them from risks resulting from human activities.
World Geodiversity Day is observed annually on October 6 to highlight the scientific, environmental, and economic value of geodiversity and to encourage international cooperation in managing, conserving, and protecting geological sites.
The organization of this seminar comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s active scientific engagement in commemorating international scientific occasions and enhancing its role in disseminating scientific knowledge and awareness.
