As part of the scientific and practical activities organized by the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Al-Mustaqbal University to enhance students’ practical skills and experience, a specialized workshop entitled “Applications of Electromyography (EMG) in Assessing Muscle Strength” was conducted. The workshop aimed to bridge theoretical concepts with direct laboratory-based practical experiences.
About the Workshop
The workshop was presented by:
* Assist. Lecturer Hiba Dhia Abdul-Amir
* Engineer Mohammed Abdul-Kareem Razouqi
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the practical mechanisms of Electromyography (EMG) technology, with an emphasis on the practical methods used to measure and analyze muscle activity and its direct relationship with muscle strength and human motor performance.
Methodology and Practical Component
The workshop covered comprehensive theoretical and practical topics, including:
* Demonstrating methods for measuring grip strength and muscular strength using advanced technologies and specialized medical devices.
* Explaining the process of recording and processing biosignals and accurately analyzing the graphical results generated by measurement devices.
* Demonstrating how these data can be utilized in medical and engineering applications, particularly in the development and evaluation of smart prosthetic limbs, medical rehabilitation systems, and modern diagnostic devices.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from attendees and students, who actively participated in practical experiments and hands-on applications using the measurement devices. This contributed to enhancing their scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience.
Objectives of the Scientific Activity
The themes of this workshop align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pursued by the university, including:
SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being:
By contributing to the development of muscle assessment and diagnostic methods that support physical therapy and rehabilitation fields.
SDG 4 – Quality Education:
By providing students with modern practical and laboratory skills and strengthening hands-on engineering education.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure:
By supporting innovation in biosignal analysis and applying it to the development of advanced medical devices.
