As part of the series of scientific and academic activities organized by Al-Mustaqbal University to enhance students’ specialized knowledge, the Department of Biomedical Engineering organized a specialized scientific seminar entitled “Electromyography (EMG): Its Role in Medical Applications”, highlighting the latest technologies used in the analysis and study of biological signals in the human body.
About the Seminar
The lecture was delivered by:
* Assist. Lecturer Hiba Dhia Abdul-Amir
* Engineer Mohammed Abdul-Kareem Razouqi
The seminar aimed to enhance students’ scientific and practical knowledge and to connect theoretical concepts related to biological signals acquired from the human body with practical engineering solutions in the field of Biomedical Engineering. This contributes to expanding their understanding of diagnostic methods and biomechanical analysis.
Methodology and Scientific Topics
The seminar adopted an analytical academic approach, covering the following topics:
* Introducing the fundamental concepts of Electromyography (EMG) and the mechanisms of acquiring and digitally processing muscle signals using sensors and Biomedical Amplifiers.
* Highlighting advanced medical and engineering applications of EMG technology, particularly in the design of smart prosthetic limbs, medical rehabilitation technologies, and the development of neuromuscular diagnostic devices.
* Providing an opportunity for direct scientific discussion with students and attendees, including questions and discussions on methods of addressing interference and noise through noise filtering techniques in biological signals to achieve higher diagnostic accuracy.
The seminar witnessed notable attendance and significant interest from students and participants. The discussions emphasized the importance of such specialized seminars in preparing biomedical engineers capable of working with the latest diagnostic and analytical technologies in the healthcare sector.
Objectives of the Scientific Activity
The topics of this seminar are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) pursued by the university, including:
SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being:
By contributing to the development of diagnostic technologies that support healthcare, improve patients’ quality of life, and serve people with special needs.
SDG 4 – Quality Education:
By enriching students’ knowledge of modern engineering sciences and connecting academic curricula with direct practical applications.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure:
By encouraging scientific research and innovation in the development of medical devices and biological signal control systems.
