Al-Mustaqbal University hosted the closing of the specialised training workshop on Erasmus+ programmes and grants, organised by the European Union Mission in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organisations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the participation of representatives from a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region and in the presence of President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. The workshop concluded on its third and final day with a series of training and interactive sessions addressing Erasmus Mundus opportunities available to students and faculty members and the basic application requirements. The sessions also covered the requirements for establishing university partnerships and preparing proposals for joint Master’s programmes, with emphasis on the role of universities in promoting available opportunities and supporting students in preparing their applications. The participants also discussed the key challenges facing Iraqi universities and proposed practical steps to address them and enhance their readiness to submit competitive projects and proposals. During his attendance at part of the workshop on its third day, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, emphasised the importance of moving beyond introducing Erasmus+ programmes towards effectively utilising available opportunities to build viable international partnerships and projects. He also highlighted the importance of benefiting from the training outcomes to develop the capacities of Iraqi universities and strengthen their participation in European academic and research cooperation programmes. It is worth noting that the three-day workshop featured specialised training sessions and discussions on mechanisms for benefiting from Erasmus+ opportunities and developing institutional capacities, in addition to international academic mobility (ICM), student exchange, and the administrative and financial aspects of European projects. The workshop also addressed application mechanisms for Jean Monnet grants to support the internationalisation of higher education and strengthen international academic partnerships.
