Al-Mustaqbal University continued, for the second consecutive day, to host the specialised training workshop on developing institutional capacities and expanding the utilisation of European Union Erasmus+ programmes and opportunities. The workshop is organised by the European Union Mission in Iraq in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organisations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with the participation of a number of public and private universities from the Middle Euphrates region. The second day of the workshop opened with a speech delivered by Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, representing President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. He emphasised the importance of translating the workshop outcomes into practical steps by developing high-quality projects that respond to the needs of universities and society. He also highlighted the continuation of discussions on International Credit Mobility (ICM), particularly student exchange and mechanisms for calculating the period students spend at European universities as part of their prescribed study periods in Iraq. The workshop addressed the administrative and financial aspects associated with implementing funded projects, including the Ministry’s approval to open foreign-currency accounts at Iraqi public universities for the purpose of managing Erasmus+ projects. It also included an introductory session on Jean Monnet projects and their application mechanisms, alongside presentations of the experiences of Al-Mustaqbal University and Al-Turath University as two Iraqi success stories in obtaining these grants, providing practical models for the participants. The activities witnessed extensive interaction and positive contributions from Al-Mustaqbal University trainees regarding mechanisms for registering universities, activating their presence, and designating their representatives on the European Union platform. Through hosting this workshop, the University reaffirmed its commitment to transforming international cooperation opportunities from a training framework into implementable projects and tangible institutional impact that supports the internationalisation of Iraqi higher education.
