The aviation sector is undergoing a rapid technological transformation as the use of artificial intelligence continues to expand. AI has become one of the most important tools for enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in modern aviation. Artificial intelligence technologies can analyze vast amounts of data generated by aircraft, airports, and navigation systems, enabling faster and more accurate decision-making. One of the most significant applications of AI in aviation is predictive maintenance. Intelligent systems can analyze the performance of aircraft components and detect early signs of potential failures before they occur. This helps reduce unplanned downtime, improve maintenance efficiency, and enhance overall aviation safety. AI also contributes to more efficient airport management by optimizing aircraft movements, passenger flows, baggage handling, and reducing waiting times. In flight operations, artificial intelligence can analyze weather conditions, air traffic, and operational data to identify more efficient flight routes. This can help reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions. AI also supports the development of smarter passenger services, from check-in procedures and baggage management to providing faster and more personalized travel information. Despite these opportunities, the use of artificial intelligence in aviation presents several challenges related to data security, cybersecurity, system reliability, and accountability for automated decisions. Therefore, the future of intelligent aviation requires a careful balance between technological advancement and human expertise, supported by appropriate standards and regulations to ensure the safe and responsible use of these technologies. The integration of artificial intelligence into aviation is also connected to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 13: Climate Action, by supporting the development of a more efficient, innovative, and sustainable aviation sector. Within this context, educational and research institutions play a vital role in preparing qualified professionals capable of leading this technological transformation. Al-Mustaqbal University ranks first among private universities in Iraq, further highlighting the importance of its role in supporting education and scientific research related to modern technologies and artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is no longer merely a technology of the future in aviation; it has already become an integral part of the industry today.
