In the context of supporting academic cooperation and strengthening the engagement of Iraqi universities with European Union programs, the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq, in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, organized a specialized training workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University on institutional capacity development and expanding engagement with the applications and opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme, with the participation of a number of public and private universities from the Middle Euphrates region. The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, alongside Professor Dr. Muwaffaq Sajit, Director of the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Ms. Asmaa Al-Sumadi, Projects Manager at the National Erasmus+ Office in Jordan. The event also brought together cultural relations directors, Erasmus+ coordinators, several college deans, and department heads at the university. The workshop commenced with an address on behalf of the Presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University, delivered by Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. He welcomed the participants and emphasized that hosting this event reflects the university’s commitment to international cooperation in advancing education, scientific research, and institutional capacity building. He further noted that engagement with international programs and experiences provides broader opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff. Al-Zuhairi highlighted the growing interest of Al-Mustaqbal University in European Union programs and high-impact international projects, referring to the recent award of a grant to one of the university’s submitted projects under the Jean Monnet Actions of the Erasmus+ Programme. He described this achievement as a further step toward strengthening the university’s presence within the European and international academic cooperation landscape. For his part, Professor Dr. Muwaffaq Sajit emphasized the importance of the workshop in supporting the internationalization of Iraqi higher education and introducing universities to Erasmus+ programs, funding opportunities, and application mechanisms. He noted that such initiatives enable universities to develop competitive project proposals and expand opportunities for international academic and research cooperation. In a statement to the university’s media office, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, affirmed that hosting the workshop is aligned with the university’s vision of strengthening its international presence, establishing effective academic partnerships, and promoting a culture of international projects. He explained that these efforts contribute to developing the capacities of academic and administrative staff while opening new horizons for scientific and research cooperation. The three-day workshop focuses on providing technical support to participants, introducing the mechanisms for applying for Erasmus+ grants, developing project proposals, and utilizing the cooperation and funding opportunities offered by the programme. It also aims to promote knowledge exchange and establish academic and institutional networks capable of transforming international cooperation opportunities into practical projects and implementable programs.
