Al-Mustaqbal University participated in the grand celebration organized by the Union of Arab Research Councils in the capital, Baghdad, marking the 50th anniversary of the Union’s establishment (1976–2026) under the theme “Fifty Years of Service to Scientific Research, Innovation, and Arab Academic Cooperation.” The celebration was attended by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq, Mr. Nizar Mohammed Saeed Al-Ameedi, along with the Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul-Hussein Al-Moussawi, and the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Research Councils, Prof. Dr. Abdelmajid Benamoura, in addition to a number of presidents of scientific research councils, academic leaders, Arab researchers, and experts. Representing Al-Mustaqbal University at this prominent scientific occasion was Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of the University, reflecting the University’s active presence and engagement in scientific and academic forums that bring together research and educational institutions at both the Iraqi and Arab levels. The celebration highlighted the importance of advancing pathways for Arab scientific and research cooperation and keeping pace with rapid developments in science and technology, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, climate change, water and food security, health, and education. These efforts seek to strengthen the role of scientific research in supporting sustainable development and fostering a knowledge-based economy. In his address during the celebration, His Excellency the President of the Republic emphasized the importance of Iraq’s hosting of the Union’s anniversary celebrations and supporting Arab scientific cooperation. He noted that the coming phase requires broader horizons for joint research, effective responses to accelerating scientific and developmental challenges, and greater benefit from recent advances in science and technology. For his part, Prof. Dr. Abdelmajid Benamoura, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Research Councils, emphasized the significant role Baghdad can play in supporting Arab scientific cooperation and opening new horizons for researchers and scientific institutions across the Arab world. The celebration’s program included a screening of the documentary film “Fifty Years of the Union of Arab Research Councils,” which presented key milestones in the Union’s journey and its achievements over five decades in supporting scientific research and Arab academic cooperation. The event also included the honoring of a number of academic and scientific figures in recognition of their contributions to advancing scientific research and strengthening joint Arab scientific cooperation. On the sidelines of the celebration, Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation represented a continuation of its efforts to expand its academic and research network, strengthen scientific partnerships, and foster cooperation with Arab academic institutions and organizations. Such efforts contribute to the exchange of expertise and knowledge while opening new horizons for researchers and academics.
