As part of efforts to support academic cooperation and strengthen the engagement of Iraqi universities with European Union programs, the European Union Delegation to Iraq, in cooperation with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, organized a specialized training workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University on developing institutional capacities and expanding the use of the opportunities and applications offered by the Erasmus+ Program. The workshop brought together representatives from a number of public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region. The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, along with Prof. Dr. Muwafaq Sajit, Director of the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Ms. Asmaa Al-Samadi, Projects Manager at the National Erasmus+ Office in Jordan. The event also included directors of cultural relations, Erasmus+ coordinators, and a number of college deans and department directors at the university. The workshop opened with a speech on behalf of the Presidency of Al-Mustaqbal University, delivered by Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision. He welcomed the participants and emphasized that hosting the event reflects the university’s commitment to international cooperation in advancing education, scientific research, and institutional capacity building. He noted that engagement with international programs and experiences provides broader opportunities for students, researchers, and academic staff. Al-Zuhairi also highlighted the growing interest of Al-Mustaqbal University in European Union programs and high-value international projects, noting that one of the projects recently submitted by the university had received a grant under the Jean Monnet projects of the Erasmus+ Program. He described this achievement as a further step toward strengthening the university’s presence in the European and international academic cooperation landscape. For his part, Prof. Dr. Muwafaq Sajit stressed the importance of the workshop in supporting the internationalization of Iraqi higher education and introducing universities to Erasmus+ programs, grants, and application mechanisms. He noted that such initiatives enable universities to develop competitive project proposals and expand opportunities for international academic and research cooperation. In a statement to the university’s Media Office, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, said that hosting the workshop aligns with the university’s vision of strengthening its international presence, building effective academic partnerships, and fostering a culture of international projects. He emphasized that these efforts contribute to developing the capacities of academic and administrative staff while opening new horizons for scientific and research cooperation. The three-day workshop focuses on providing technical support to participants, introducing the mechanisms for applying for Erasmus+ grants, developing project proposals, and making effective use of the cooperation and funding opportunities offered by the program. It also aims to promote knowledge exchange and build academic and institutional networks capable of transforming international cooperation opportunities into practical projects and programs. The workshop represents a continuation of Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to support international initiatives and strengthen partnerships with universities and institutions worldwide, translating its vision of international engagement into an effective pathway for advancing academic and institutional capacities and enhancing the presence of Iraqi universities in the international academic community.
