Al-Mustaqbal University Strengthens Its International Presence at the Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue at the University of Strathclyde

Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom, on 8 September 2026, with the participation of a distinguished group of presidents and higher education leaders from around the world. Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi’s participation came at the invitation of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), as part of an international platform dedicated to discussing the future of internationalisation in higher education, strategies for developing academic and research partnerships, and approaches to addressing global challenges and emerging transformations facing higher education institutions. The dialogue commenced with welcoming remarks from the host university, followed by addresses from Dr. Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), and Prof. Mervyn Bucker, Executive Director of the European Association for International Education (EAIE). The event featured a keynote lecture entitled “Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times,” delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, who presented a range of contemporary perspectives and advanced strategies for leading higher education institutions in rapidly changing global environments. The keynote addressed the VUCA Prime leadership model, which focuses on Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility, while also presenting successful models and strategies for building equitable and sustainable partnerships between universities. In addition, discussions examined internationalisation markets and reviewed the latest data and statistics concerning global trends in international student mobility and recruitment. Throughout the dialogue, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi participated in a series of interactive sessions and roundtable discussions addressing the future of international partnerships, mechanisms for selecting strategic partners, the development of joint academic programmes, the advancement of research collaboration, and the promotion of reciprocity in international academic relations. The sessions also explored ways of reimagining internationalisation in higher education, including the integration of internationalisation into curricula, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning and academic mobility, and the potential of virtual exchange as a modern and sustainable approach to strengthening international cooperation among universities. On the sidelines of the event, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi held a meeting with Dr. Hilligje van’t Land, Secretary General of the International Association of Universities (IAU), during which they discussed prospects for future academic and research partnerships. He also presented her with a commemorative gift representing the rich heritage and civilisation of Iraq. In addition, he held a number of meetings with leaders and representatives of participating academic institutions to explore opportunities for cooperation and the exchange of expertise. This participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to strengthening its academic presence internationally, advancing its strategic plans in line with global developments in higher education leadership and management, and expanding its network of international partnerships and relations. It also contributes to creating new opportunities for academic and research cooperation and facilitating the exchange of expertise with leading higher education institutions worldwide.
