The Head of the Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies Engineering delivered a scientific lecture entitled “Drag Reduction Devices and Fuel Consumption” on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the office of the Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, in the presence of the Administrative Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering Technologies, the heads of the scientific departments, the Director of the Energy Research Center, and the Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department. During the lecture, the speaker discussed the concept of Drag Force, which affects objects as they move through the air, explaining its main types, including pressure drag, skin-friction drag, and induced drag. He also presented the main devices and technologies used to reduce drag in aircraft and vehicles, including winglets, air deflectors, side skirts, and aerodynamic designs that contribute to improving the aerodynamic performance of vehicles. The speaker also explained the relationship between reducing drag force and fuel consumption, highlighting that reducing air resistance decreases the power required by the engine to maintain the same vehicle speed, thereby improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions resulting from vehicle operation. The lecture aimed to enhance knowledge of modern engineering technologies in the field of drag reduction and energy efficiency, while highlighting the importance of sustainable engineering solutions in reducing fuel consumption and emissions, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. This activity comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to support scientific and research activities and encourage the exchange of engineering knowledge and expertise, contributing to the development of the academic environment and promoting the concepts of sustainability and energy efficiency. Al-Mustaqbal University ranks first among private universities in Iraq.
